About us

Who are we?

MAXImini.com, Caribbean news since 1996

Since April 2, 1996, MAXImini.com has been keeping pace with the evolution of digital technology and information in the French West Indies. Founded in Guadeloupe, at a time when the internet was still in its infancy, MAXImini developed around a simple ambition: to make information accessible quickly, clearly, and to the widest possible audience.

Maximum information in minimum time.

In its early days, the project was called WebAntilles. It offered a link portal, a directory of Caribbean websites, a local events calendar, and classified ads. The project then evolved into MAXImini.com, a news portal dedicated to Guadeloupe, then to Martinique, French Guiana, and the entire French-speaking Caribbean.

A Web Pioneer in the French West Indies

When MAXImini began its journey, major search engines and news portals in their current form did not yet exist. The web was then a new territory, with little local content and virtually no regional digital media.

MAXImini helped build this Caribbean digital space by developing tools, directories, and content tailored to the realities of our territories. This pioneering approach allowed it to become a recognized player on the internet in Guadeloupe and the French West Indies.

The site notably received two Nets d’Or awards, in 1997 and 2003, recognizing the quality and innovation of web projects.

  • From Directory to Comprehensive Media
  • Over the years, MAXImini.com has constantly evolved its model and content. The portal has successively integrated:
  • A directory of Caribbean websites.
  • An internet search engine.
  • A business and telephone directory.
  • Classified ads and real estate listings.
  • Tourist guides dedicated to Caribbean towns and villages.
  • News dispatches and local news articles.
  • Reports, investigations, and video content.
  • Partnerships with media outlets, businesses, and telecom operators.
  • This evolution has made MAXImini much more than a website: a true digital and editorial media platform serving the Caribbean.

News close to the ground

MAXImini focuses on the real lives of the communities and the people who bring them to life. Our editorial line is dedicated to covering topics that directly affect the local population:

  • Local and regional news.
  • Society and daily life.
  • Economy and businesses.
  • Politics and institutions.
  • Culture and heritage.
  • Sports.
  • Tourism.
  • Environment.
  • Innovation and digital technology.
  • Civil issues.

Our ambition is to offer useful, accessible information rooted in the reality of the French West Indies and the Francophone Caribbean.

A History of Press and Audiovisual Production

MAXImini's story is also rooted in the press and audiovisual sectors. The project has given rise to activities as a news agency, content production company, and video report producer.

In 2004, MAXImini launched a free daily newspaper distributed primarily in shops, restaurants, bakeries, kiosks, and businesses in Guadeloupe. For several years, this print edition coexisted with the website, reaching a still relatively unconnected audience.

MAXImini has also provided content to various media and telecommunications companies, including Orange Caraïbes, ATV, GTV, ETV, and EFM. This experience has contributed to developing a comprehensive approach that integrates digital press, video, television, and radio.

Antillean Technological Expertise

Since its inception, MAXImini has leveraged technology to improve access to information. The site has gone through several technological generations:

  • Development of web portals and directories starting in the 1990s.
  • Creation of search engines and keyword search tools.
  • Technological partnerships with IBM, Albert.com, AlltheWeb, Net2one, and Webcity.
  • Development of an in-house CMS called Leonard.
  • Gradual migration from ASP to PHP.
  • Adoption of HTML5.
  • Page load optimization.
  • Development of a social media presence and a mobile application.

This technological culture is part of MAXImini's DNA. It allows us today to continue our transformation and explore new uses of the web, video, mobile, artificial intelligence, and automation.
A Collective Adventure

Throughout its history, MAXImini has welcomed and fostered collaboration among numerous journalists, freelancers, photographers, developers, and media professionals. More than sixty journalists and contributors have participated in the various editions of the project over the years.

Many professionals who worked with MAXImini went on to pursue careers in television, radio, print media, and digital media, in Guadeloupe, the Caribbean, and internationally.

MAXImini has always been a collective adventure: that of a team, partners, contributors, and an audience committed to quality local news.

Our Vision Today

The new MAXImini.com builds on this history while looking toward the future.

Our goal is to create a modern news platform, independent in its editorial approach, accessible on all screens, and open to new forms of storytelling. We want to put technology at the service of information, without losing what defines us: our local focus, responsiveness, and Caribbean roots.

In particular, we want to:

  • Promote news from Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, and the Caribbean.
  • Give greater visibility to local initiatives.
  • Offer written, audio, and video content.
  • Facilitate access to reliable and understandable information.
  • Support the region's economic, cultural, and community organizations.
  • Develop digital experiences adapted to current usage patterns.
  • Prepare Caribbean media for future technological advancements.

One identity, one mission

For over twenty years, MAXImini has pursued the same mission: connecting territories, people, and information.

Our story began with a directory of links and a local events calendar. It continued with an information portal, a search engine, a print newspaper, a news agency, and audiovisual productions. Today, it continues with a new platform designed for contemporary digital uses.
