Money transfers, known as remittances, sent by migrants to low- and middle-income countries have nearly doubled in a decade, reaching $728.6 billion by 2025. This 94% increase between 2016 and 2025 far exceeds the rise in the number of migrants. Remittances support families but also make economies vulnerable to changes in migration policy, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.
