Les Abymes was the scene of clashes between the police and high school students during a protest. The students, who were demanding better learning conditions, were dispersed by tear gas grenades. The law enforcement agencies justify their intervention by the presence of troublemakers, a version contested by the protesters. Two high schools will be closed as a precaution following these events.
