On the night of September 1 to 2, a fire ravaged the premises of the Iaai customary council in Ouvéa. Judicial authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of this incident. The premises are now closed to the public and sealed. As a result, the upcoming meetings of the IAAI area are postponed, and the council calls for calm and dialogue within the community.
