On September 1st, the kākāpō population reached a new high with the addition of 90 chicks to the census. This advancement is marked by the recognition of the autonomy of young birds after 150 days. Recovery efforts, initiated in 1995, have increased the number of individuals from 51 to 325. Teams have also experimented with less intrusive tracking methods to promote natural breeding.
