The regulation of psychiatrists in Trinidad and Tobago is under review, with calls to modernize the Medical Council law. Currently, sanctions for professional misconduct are limited, and the legislation struggles to adapt to contemporary realities, particularly in terms of digital communication. Reforms are being considered to expand disciplinary options and draw inspiration from models in Commonwealth countries, in order to better protect patients while ensuring fairness for practitioners.
