The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has canceled several million dollars in customer debts thanks to an amnesty implemented before the general elections. According to officials, most of these debts were very old and considered uncollectible. The program, launched in April, allowed many customers to regularize their situation, although the wiped-out debt is not seen as a major cause of APUA's current financial difficulties.
