Tropical Storm Lowell is expected to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane by Wednesday, according to forecasts. Currently located about 740 miles southeast of Hilo, it has sustained winds of 65 mph. Lowell is moving westward and will generate swells affecting the Hawaiian Islands starting mid-week. Meanwhile, Hurricane Karina, although powerful, is expected to begin weakening in the coming days.
