The JEP has identified twelve individuals as the main responsible parties in a criminal alliance with paramilitaries, leading to tragic events in Barrancabermeja between 1998 and 2000. This takeover aimed to eliminate the guerrilla, resulting in 473 victims and several massacres. This is the first time that members of the security forces have been criminally charged for these crimes, marking an important judicial turning point.
