The mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, rejected the property claim on the Nueva York Chiquito lands, stating that they belong to the Dominican State. He specified that these spaces must be preserved for the public good, particularly for projects aimed at recovering the Yaque del Norte River. Rodríguez also emphasized the importance of requalifying the surrounding areas and relocating families living in the sector.
