The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) is urging the Ministry of Finance to act swiftly regarding the proposed increase in the General Consumption Tax (GCT) for the tourism sector. Although a technical working group has been agreed upon, no meetings have yet taken place. The JHTA emphasizes the importance of assessing the impact of this measure on employment and the competitiveness of the sector, which has already been weakened by recent circumstances.
