The Panama Canal is planning new reductions in maritime traffic due to the effects of El Niño. In the face of severe drought in Central America, authorities have already decreased the number of daily passages. Currently, transit is limited to 32 ships per day, and a further reduction to 29.5 is expected for October. This climatic phenomenon, the strongest in forty years, is severely impacting the operation of the canal.
