Lymphatic filariasis is experiencing a worrying increase in French Polynesia, with 40 new cases reported in the first half of 2026. Health authorities, after noticing an increase in infections across several archipelagos, are planning preventive treatment campaigns in Tahaa and Hiva Oa. Prevalence surveys will also be conducted to better understand the extent of the disease and combat its spread.
