On September 1, 2024, hundreds of Martinicans gathered at the Grand Port Maritime of Fort-de-France to denounce the rising prices on the island. Despite measures implemented since then, the Competition Authority notes that price discrepancies with mainland France remain high. At the start of the 2026 school year, the cost of supplies has increased again, illustrating the ongoing high cost of living in Martinique.
