A study led by Yoelvis Bolaños Álvarez revealed varying levels of mercury along the Cuban coasts, establishing a national benchmark for the first time. The most affected areas include the Sagua la Grande River and Havana Bay, where concentrations often exceed harmful thresholds for marine wildlife. This diagnosis, supported by several institutions, aims to strengthen mercury management in connection with the Minamata Convention.
