The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has recommended widespread reparations for the harms related to the transatlantic trafficking of Africans. This new interpretation of the 1969 Convention requires states to act to restore the dignity of people of African descent. Although non-binding, this recommendation could influence judicial decisions and support claims for restorative justice on a global scale.
