A total of 988 students in Portland received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, surpassing the set target of 31.7%. Dr. Sharon Lewis, the health officer in the parish, praised the commitment of parents and schools in this vaccination program. The vaccine, included in the national schedule, protects against several cancers. She also reminded of the importance of vaccination against other infectious diseases.
