Jean-Pierre Fiard, botanist and philosophy professor, left a mark on Martinique through his commitment to biodiversity preservation. Arriving in 1967, he collaborated with Madeleine Jouy de Grandmaison and other enthusiasts to promote life sciences. His doctoral thesis and his advocacy for the inclusion of Montagne Pelée in the UNESCO World Heritage testify to his dedication. A tribute was paid to him by the national botanical conservatory.
