The correctional court of Mayotte sentenced a kwassa pilot to four years in prison following a tragic incident that occurred in July 2025. The vessel, carrying migrants, had collided with a police interceptor, resulting in the death of two passengers. In addition to the prison sentence, the pilot received a fine of 1,000 euros and a ban from French territory for involuntary manslaughter and aiding illegal stay.
