Human papillomavirus, long associated with cervical cancer, also affects men. Although their cancer risk is generally lower, throat cancers represent a concerning exception, being three to five times more common in them. Vaccination appears to be the best protection, especially if administered early. Condoms, on the other hand, do not provide effective protection against this virus.
