During the first two weeks of August, the Dominican Republic recorded 47 homicides, or three murders per day. Although this figure is down from the previous year, it represents the highest monthly incidence in 14 months. Social conflicts are the cause of the majority of cases. Meanwhile, 84 people were injured and more than 2,100 thefts were reported in the country.
