The 26th Congress of the Kanak people marked a turning point with the election of Richard Poarairiwa as the new president of the customary Senate, succeeding Ludovic Boula. During the handover ceremony, Poarairiwa emphasized the importance of the institution in the face of economic, social, and environmental challenges. He also advocated for recognition of the rights of the Kanak people and the importance of cooperation among all communities to build a common future.
