During the past fiscal year, the public debt of the Bahamas saw a significant increase, reaching nearly $14.7 billion. This surge is partly attributed to the acquisition of the Grand Bahama Power Company and massive borrowing by public enterprises. The report from the Ministry of Finance indicates that state-guaranteed debt has more than doubled, while central debt has also increased, but the debt-to-GDP ratio has slightly decreased.
